Water companies spend £millions each year on clearing blockages from their water systems. These blockages are most often caused by the inappropriate disposal of fats, oils and greases, and other items down our sinks and toilets.
We delivered community engagement and behaviour change programmes for three water companies to educate consumers on the importance of not flushing inappropriate items/substances into the sewerage network to help prevent sewer blockages, flooding and pollution. This approach was shown to successfully reduce blockages and resulted in positive shifts in attitudes and behaviour.
