Oonagh Aitken

Chief Executive, Volunteering Matters

 

Oonagh Aitken is chief executive of Volunteering Matters, (formally CSV) following three years with the Local Government Association focusing on improvement in Children’s Services and co-managing the Ageing Well programme. In the mid 2000s, she spent three years at McGill University School of Social Work, teaching social policy and conducting research in First Nations and Inuit communities.

Oonagh has a first degree in Modern Languages, a Master’s in Educational Administration and a Master’s in Art History.

A former Chief Executive of COSLA, she held a number of positions in the Improvement and Development Agency for Local Government including Regional Associate and Director of Strategy.

She began her management career in the Education Directorate of Strathclyde Regional Council and has held senior posts in Glasgow City Council and Fife Council.

Oonagh also spent two years in Brussels and has considerable European and international experience.
